HSBC UAE has opened its $250 million new headquarters in Downtown Dubai, which is said to be one of the most sustainable buildings in the world.

In a statement, the lender stated that the HSBC Tower secured the coveted Gold Standard for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) from the Green Building Council.

John Flint, HSBC Group Chief Executive, said, “Markets like the UAE represent HSBC’s future, where we want to invest and grow, bringing more of HSBC to more people because we see an opportunity here, not just for us, but for our customers all over the world.”

The HSBC Tower provides a new way of working for staff in a building that leverages artificial intelligence, machine learning as well as biometrics and blockchain innovation.

LEED-certified buildings use 25 per cent less energy and 40 per cent less water than a normal building, which contributes towards increased environmental performance, according to local newswire, WAM.
